I am back to the hair removal topic again! Remember last time I talked about the waxing and IPL services that I did at Bubble Gum Wax? you can read the post here. I love their services and it's been nearly half year I am still one of their customers! Going back for waxing and IPL monthly, those parts that done by IPL is significantly reduced and very fine now. I do not shave nor use any hair removal thing on my body parts anymore, the hair takes longer time to grow and the hair is too fine to be noticed.
I am very happy with the result and would love to share more information on the IPL service for this post. Hopefully you guys could increase the awareness of hair removal methods. There are several hair removal methods in the market, such as Shaving, Tweezing, Chemical Depilatories, Epilating, Waxing and IPL – Intense Pulsed Light. Do you know any of it?
*******************************************************************************************
Shaving
- A sharp razor is glided over the skin and hair is shaved at the surface.
- Most
common and probably the most widely used.
- Simple,
easy and convenient
Disadvantages
- Only removes hair topically thus hair regrowth
is rapid.
- Bumping can occur especially in sensitive areas
like Bikini line area.
- Possibilities of getting pigmentation
Tweezing
- Method of hair removal used to remove undesired hair from
eyebrows / under arm.
- Normally
used to remove one or two undesirable hairs.
Disadvantages
- Time consuming for larger areas.
- Tweezing too many hairs at a time increases the
chance of breaking the hair below the skin’s surface and it will cause rapid
regrowth and irritation from blunt.
Chemical
Depilatories
- Available in the form of cream, paste or powder. The hair is
removed when the depilatory solution is washed away from the skin’s barrier.
- Used
to remove hair from legs, bikini areas and under arms.
- Fast
and Easily accessible.
Disadvantages
- The skin becomes more irritated and sensitive.
- The most common complaints about chemical
depilatories are that they leave you the burning sensation.
Epilator
Disadvantages
- Can be painful.
- Can be difficult for large amount of hair.
- If done improperly, it can result in ingrown
hair
Waxing
- In depilatory waxing, a thin layer of wax is applied, then
pulled against the direction of the hair growth
Advantages
- Quick, simple, convenient and affordable
procedure.
- Ideal for any area of any size that need to be
waxed.
- It can be used on sensitive and delicate areas.
- All the hair can be removed in one visit, from
the top of the neck to the tip of the toes.
- Removes the right amount of dead skin, leaving
the skin soft and smooth.
- It takes averagely 3 – 4 weeks for the hair to
grow back before the procedure needs to be repeated.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
- A specialized hand piece emits pulses of light into the hair
follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted
to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for
growing new hair.
BENEFITS:
- PERMANENT (2 or more YEARS of PERMANENT HAIR
REDUCTION)
Concentrated pulses of light loosen the hair and disable the
cells responsible for new hair growth. Most hair removed with Pulsed-Light will
not grow back for month, while other hair may not grow back at all. Hair that
does grow back may be thinner and lighter.
- CONVENIENT
Unlike waxing, there is no need to let hair grow out between
treatments. You can remain hair free all the time.
- FAST
Small areas, such as the underarm or upper lip can be
treated in 10 – 15 minutes and even larger areas, like Brazilian can be treated
in 30 - 35 minutes.
- SAFE
There is less chance for scarring and pigmentation change.
There is no risk of damaging surrounding tissues.

My pretty therapist, Joyce
This is why I choose to go for waxing and IPL services in the end, IPL giving me an almost painless experience, especially I feel nothing when Joyce, my therapist is doing the underarm for me.
