[ADV] World Contraception Day with Exeltis Pharma

I guess not many females have the awareness of contraceptive pills, including myself, previously, I thought contraceptive pills are danger to our body and it's unsafe. However, Exeltis Pharma, the branded pharmaceutical division of Spanish-based, has proved me wrong. Couple of weeks ago, in conjunction with World Contraceptive Day, they have integrated health care multinational, CHEMO GROUP, to announce the results of its first regional market survey on prescribing behaviours in the female hormones market. Not only in Malaysia, the market survey was carried out in other Southeast Asia countries such as Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand, involving professions in this field.

The survey has showed that there's a increase number of 12 percent of females in Malaysia requiring for hormonal treatment. It may be the reason of active sexual lives and growing availability of hormone therapies in the market. Among the hormone therapies, contraceptive (COC) pills are the better choice. A good COC pill has no side effects and gives health benefits to our body. Of course, if it's expensive, I don't think that you would consume it constantly right? So it must be affordable as well!

So what is oral contraceptive (OC) pills?

In a simplest way, OC pill is used for birth control or pregnancy prevention. There're more than 100 million women taking OC pills nowadays. It contains synthetic versions of the female hormones, which are oestrogen and progesterone, which women product naturally in their ovaries. Technically it used to prevent pregnancy and provides other health benefits.

Benefits

Acne - Consuming OC pills can lowers the amount of androgens (because of oestrogen and progestin), which contains a group of hormones including testosterone, that stimulat the production of oil by glands in the skin. Therefore, the skin is less oily and less severe acne.

Cancer - Long term OC pill use can also protects women against ovarian cancer. No joking, the risk of cancer reduces because of the long term consume of OC pills. There was a meta-analysis reported that an 18 percent risk reduction for colorectal cancer among women who consume OC pills.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) - I guess this is females' monthly enemy. Taking OC pills reduces the painfulness of the PMS.

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) - OC pills relieves both physical and psychological PMDD symptoms because it contains ethinylestradiol (EE) and drospirenone.

Disturbance of Menstrul Cycle - OC pills can regulates menstrual cycle so that they occur on a monthly basis, by balancing the hormonal levels in the body.

Dysmenorrhea (severe menstrual pain) - will be reduced by consuming OC pills.

Menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding) - continuous therapy enhances the effectiveness and reduces the problem.

Side Effect of OC pills?

Basically there's no major side effect of taking OC pills. However, some of the women may experience nausea, headaches or sore breasts. These symptoms will usually go off after weeks. Other minor side effects are tiredness, change in sex drive, skin changes and mood changes. But it really have to depend on the person's condition.
